Originally from Los Angeles, Marlin attended Pepperdine University after graduation from high school in 1971.  In 1972, during his first year of college and after being contacted by the Selective Service and passing the Army physical, he joined the United States Coast Guard where he served most of his time on an icebreaker as a radio operator and ship‘s diver.  During his time in the Coast Guard, he traveled to Alaska, the South Pacific (including New Zealand, Australia and Antarctica) as well as several countries in South America.  Upon being honorably discharged in 1977, Marlin returned to Pepperdine University where he participated in the Year-In-Europe program.  While living in Heidelberg, Germany, Marlin traveled throughout Europe, including behind the now non-existent Iron Curtain.  He also took a short jaunt to Northern Africa with some fellow students.  After returning from Europe, Marlin continued his studies at Pepperdine as well as working in the mailroom and finance office.  It was during that time that he met his soon-to-be wife, Cindi.

Marlin and Cindi were married in the Pepperdine University chapel in 1979 and moved to Marysville in 1981 where Marlin continued his education at California State University, Sacramento.  Marlin graduated with honors in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance.  Marlin currently holds a CPA certificate and works as a systems supervisor for the California Department of Transportation.

Before meeting Marlin, Cindi attended the Sunset School of Preaching in Lubbock, Texas, where she participated in the Adventures In Missions (AIM) program.  At that time she had plans to do missionary work in Liberia, Africa, with her then husband, Steve Davis.  Tragically, Steve was killed in an auto accident  shortly before they could leave for Liberia.   Subsequently, Cindi and her two young sons lived with Cindi’s parents in Marysville, CA.  Both sons are now married and Marlin and Cindi have two wonderful
granddaughters.
