Hubert (Hugh) Carter

Hugh was baptized in 1965 in the church building on Percy Avenue.  He was on the Planning and Building committee for the building at Peach Tree Lane, where he has now served as an elder for over 10 years.

After working as a foreman on a chicken breeding farm for five years, he went to work for Wonder Bread & Hostess Cake in April 1957—then retired 38 Aprils later.

Hugh likes to duck hunt with his son, and fish when he has the opportunity.  Hugh enjoys traveling and gardening together with his wife, Imogene. They also walk three miles a day, six days a week. They love to camp and have camped for many years with a group from the church.  He served for 15 years as lead boys’ counselor at Sierra Bible Camp.  He now teaches an adult Bible class and has previously co-taught a teen class.

Hugh & Imogene Carter

Hugh and Imogene first met when they were in the 5th grade, and were engaged during their senior year in high school and married on September 13 after graduation. Now they have three children: Cathie, Gene, and Chuck; plus six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Imogene has taught Sunday School classes for kids in second grade through a teenage girls’ class, VBS and a ladies’ class for many years.  She also taught at Sierra Bible Camp for fifteen wonderful years. Imogene started volunteering as a Pink Lady at Rideout Hospital about 37 years ago, and has held many chairmanships and served as president of the group.  I am still very active, having earned my “10,000 hours” pin.Hugh and Imogene love to travel and have been to many places in the world.  She also loves to garden, walk, and read when she has time. She comes from a long heritage of church of Christ, and was baptized when she was twelve. She knows the the Lord has blessed her much.

Hugh and Imogene have the gift of hospitality and have had many guests into their home over the years.  Some have stayed overnight, and three youth ministers stayed for the summer.  They feel blessed by all of them.

They know that God has been good, and He is always faithful.
